Luxury Apartments in Mexico City (My Inclusive Experience) [2022]

Luxury Apartments in Mexico City (My Inclusive Experience)

Recently I’ve been traveling and staying in a few cities for only a few weeks at a time. I was in Costa Rica, Bogota, Medellin, and Phoenix – just to name a few. After bouncing around so much, I needed a bit of a break to focus and reset my goals. I decided why not splurge a bit on an inclusive luxury apartment in Mexico City.

I did my due diligence and finally found the luxury apartment I wanted. Because it’s temporary, I only booked it from AirBnB. But there are many other ways to find luxury apartments in Mexico City. I will go through that a bit later.

As of this writing, I’m actually one and a half months into living in this fancy apartment. I’ve learned of other options as well if I decide to move here long term. Allow me to indulge you in what I’ve learned, so you don’t have to go scour the internet and figure out what apartment is right for you in CDMX.

For Short Term Apartments

I’m considering living in Mexico City long term (maybe 6 months or more). But before I pull the trigger I wanted to double check what I wanted if I were to stay abroad long term.

This is why I chose AirBnB. Hotels don’t usually provide you a good idea of what you need to live in a place long term. But AirBnBs do. They are usually places where people already live and decided to rent them out. And the options to choose from are endless in Mexico City.

Enter my AirBnB…

It is located in a neighborhood called Santa Fe. When I looked for luxury apartments with all inclusive amenities, Santa Fe was the neighborhood that had the most options bar none. Along with fancy apartments, it also has a reputation of being an upper class neighborhood.

From my window I can see two helicopter pads really close by. If that’s not a sign of upper class, then you’re part of the 1%.

Amenities

Within the apartment itself are a slew of all the inclusive amenities you could ever want for living long term.

Shared amenities:

The view on the 24th floor. Here you can see at least 3 helicopter pads.
  • There are multiple jacuzzis on the rooftop with the view of Santa Fe’s main avenue and skyscrapers.

At the mezzanine I take a break and go for a swim in one of Santa Fe’s apartments.
  • On the mezzanine there are two jacuzzis and two saunas. The pool and the gym are on the same floor. And if you need a massage or a spa treatment, that can also be booked on the same floor.
  • There is also an underground garage. One parking space is assigned to me in my apartment.

Inside my apartment:

My luxury apartment stay in Santa Fe Mexico City.
  • One bedroom, with a walk-in closet, and a master bath. On the side there are floor to ceiling windows that lead out to a terrace. In front of the bed overlooks a large widescreen HDTV integrated with Netflix.
  • The living room is also complete with floor to ceiling windows that lead out to another terrace. Another widescreen HDTV is placed in front of a comfortable couch which turns into a bed (arguably just as comfortable as the master bed).
  • There is also a half bathroom in between the living room and the dining/kitchen area.
  • In the dining/kitchen area is a large wooden table that sits 5 people comfortably. Behind it is the kitchen, with a granite island and stove sitting in the middle. It is fully stocked.
  • Other appliances in the apartment include washer and dryer, freezer and refrigerator, microwave, blender, and coffee maker.

The total cost per month for my apartment is $2250 USD.

I would say it definitely beats an unfurnished apartment in downtown Austin, TX anytime.

But for long term, that price could be cut in half here. But that’s for later.

If you’re looking for a temporary luxury apartment I would definitely recommend AirBnB for your search. Here’s some guidelines for basic AirBnB search tips.

  • Filter the time you’d like to stay in Mexico City. There are usually discounts applied if you stay at least one month. But sometimes there are discounts for a week. So if you’re flexible in the length of your stay, keep that in mind.
  • Filter for the amenities you want. For me I had to have a pool and a gym.
  • Read through the reviews. What’s a deal breaker for you may not be a deal breaker for others. For instance noise is a deal breaker for me. You can search through the reviews if you’re looking for something you don’t like. You can use different variations of the word you’re looking for as well as translate them into spanish.

Advanced AirBnB search tips:

  • Reach out the owner and see if you can view the apartment. Some times the owner can arrange a time for you to view the apartment, especially if you’re going to book it long term.
  • Arrange a deal with the owner to pay for the AirBnB in cash. This can be tricky because AirBnB is a mediator and you’re cutting them out from the interaction. If you do this. But I have done this in the past if I trust the owner or have heard of others doing the same for that particular AirBnB.

When you’re looking for short term rentals, AirBnB is going to be your best friend. You get the flexibility to choose how long you want to stay there without any long term commitment. But it does come with a fee.

If you’re looking into renting a luxury apartment long term, you’ll find that they come in much lower price points than the short term AirBnBs.

Would I recommend my AirBnB?

Short answer is yes for a nice low paced luxury apartment getaway vacation. However Santa Fe is a bit too far from the commotion I’d prefer to be around. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot to see in the Avenida Santa Fe neighborhood:

parque mexicana near santa fe mexico's luxury apartments
Parque Mexicana. The park next door.
  • Parque Mexicana – A park for all complete with a skating park, food and drink choices, fountains, dog parks, Petco, Starbucks, skyscraper views, and more!
  • Nice restaurants within walking distance
  • Santa Fe Mall – The biggest mall in Mexico City
  • The hands and the face statues

It is also renowned for being one of Mexico City’s most modern structure – built only in the past ~20 years. Hence the many options for luxury apartments to choose from.

However, if you want to be nearer the action and avoid getting an Uber in Mexico City, I would highly recommend the Roma Norte, or Condesa area. It is considered one of Mexico City’s more hipster neighborhood. Here you can find nice apartments, but usually the quantity of all amenities included won’t be as much.

For Long Term Apartments

AirBnB is very useful in finding fully furnished long term stays. If you can get the WhatsApp number of the owner, you can negotiate long term stays at a lesser cost. Make sure to take a look and have a showing before signing anything.

Inmuebles24.com will also be a big aid in finding a long term luxury apartment in Mexico City. Because it doesn’t have any arbiter with your length’s stay, apart from contracts between you and the landlord, the apartments will be cheaper.

I found my apartment style in my same building on that website for around $1100 USD. It did come unfurnished though. But if you’re going to live there 6 months or a year, that halfway point is a good price.

You can find other apartment deals on Facebook Groups, and homie.mx for other options.

The only thing I’d advise you here is to find someone who speaks Spanish and English. They will be useful to help you search and communicate the listings you find.

To rent long term, you’ll also need to show more paperwork than you would with AirBnB. So be prepared if they ask you for certain documentation like:

  • Proof of Income
  • Passport Copy
  • Credit Check
  • A local co-signer

You can get away with a lot of the requirements if you’re able to put a higher deposit up front. Everything is negotiable here.

But in general, the process is similar to the USA. Each listing will depend on the flexibility of the landlord.

For example, if you the owner and the landlord are the same, they will be more flexible than a systemized business.

Furnished or Unfurnished

Once you go through the process of handling the contracts and negotiations, it’s time to furnish the luxury apartment.

You can do this one of two ways – fast or slow.

To get furniture fast, you can visit an Ikea. Yes there’s an Ikea in Mexico City. From there you can find everything you’ll need to furnish your place. Plus it also comes with delivery to your apartment so you don’t have to worry about transportation logistics.

The other way is slower. You can furnish the apartment from what you can find on Facebook marketplace or through friends or acquaintances who’d be willing to give you furniture for free or at a low cost.

Or… I present a third option. Look through these mid to long term stay length websites and only tour or consider places that are already furnished. This can be super handy especially if you’re not staying around long in Mexico City.

The Neighborhoods of Luxury Apartments in Mexico City

Parque Mexicana, Santa Fe Mexico City at night.
A stroll over at Parque Mexicana.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, most of the all inclusive luxury apartments in Mexico City will be found in Santa Fe. I found this out while filtering through AirBnBs that included all amenities like a pool and a gym.

The next best area to check would be Polanco. There won’t be skyscrapers there. But it’s going to have a lot of luxury apartments being another affluent neighborhood in Mexico City.

Mexico City has a lot of other livable neighborhoods that are worth noting. You mall also find nicer apartments in Roma Norte or Condesa if you wanted to expand your search as well.
