Does Amazon Deliver to Mexico? [2022]

Does Amazon Deliver to Mexico?

In Latin America, Mercado Libre has the market share when it comes to making online orders. For people coming from the USA, Amazon will be the predominant platform. Although not as common as Mercado Libre, Amazon does deliver to Latin America. And more specifically, Mexico.

Amazon does deliver in Mexico. You can still order from amazon.com and have packages shipped to Mexico without the use of Prime shipping. Use amazon.com.mx to have access to a faster Amazon Prime shipping.

As of writing this, I’m staying in CDMX – aka Mexico City. I have used amazon.com to order in Latin America before but I’ve noticed that amazon.com.mx has faster shipping times. I can speak specifically on items I ordered on July 25, 2022 when I purchased Quest Nutrition Bars, and multi-vitamins. It arrived on July 29, 2022.

($2,439.49 shown above is in Mexican Pesos. That’s approximately $122.76 USD.)

How to Receive Packages in Mexico

This is the trickier part. If you’re a traveler, you’ll probably stay in AirBnBs and hotels. If you’ve never ordered anything internationally or while on the move this process may seem confusing. But it’s actually pretty simple. There are two ways to receive packages when you’re traveling: ask your host how you can receive packages, or have a designated host.

Packages Directly to Your AirBnB, Hostel, or Hotel

Latin America seems to have less formalities which can be an upside when it comes to shipping formalities. In the USA, it seems that if a specific situation doesn’t fit a protocol, it has to go back to a facility to wait for approval. In Latin America, the delivery drivers will just text (or use WhatsApp which is more likely) you if they’re having a hard time delivering to your place.

I like to do a couple things before I order high dollar amounts to new locations. First, I will order a low cost item and have it shipped. If it arrives, I’ll then place the high cost item directly. You can also try ordering a second time just to make sure there are no fluke complications.

The best way to make sure you get packages delivered to your place without complication is to contact the host, or the receptionist of where you are staying in advance. They’ll usually have specific instructions like Amazon Prime is usually left at the reception or the delivery driver will contact you to make sure you are available to pickup the item.

Packages Delivered to a Designated Host

This is the same concept as Amazon Lockers in the USA. If you’re traveling or don’t have a designated address in the USA, you can use Amazon Lockers to ship your things to and pick it up. In some places these Lockers are next to gas stations. Although, I haven’t seen any Lockers in Latin America, I know shipping carriers can be designated pickup spots.

For instance DHL, FedEx, and UPS are highly operational in Mexico City. You can designated a carrier to pickup packages in some cases. DHL is close to where I live, in some cases I’ve had packages delivered there instead of my place.

Other less known services are available that allow an address to ship to for parcel pickup. I haven’t used them, but a Google search can sometimes show this availability of this service in the city you will be staying in.

Alternatives to Amazon

My ongoing orders from Rappi. I use this almost everyday.

If you’re going to Mexico or any other city in Latin America, my advice would be to use Rappi. It is a superior form of online ordering than Amazon.

I do most of my online orders through Rappi. You can order anything from there. I’ve ordered restaurant foods, groceries and even a camera from Rappi. And of course it’s going to be cheaper than items you find in the USA – minus the electronics.

Other popular places you can order would be Mercado Libre. But I’ve never ordered from there.
