Skydiving in Dubai: The Experience

In the morning the Skydive Dubai team will arrive to pick you up from your hotel. Should you eat breakfast? Don’t worry, we’ll cover that, just stick with us. Skydive Dubai will pick you up and get you to your flight. At this point, you will be prepared for your tandem or solo jump and the plane will take you over the deserts of Dubai or the Palm Jumeirah (the famous man-made islands you have read about!).

Fast-forward to 13,000 feet. Lips dry, anticipating your taste of the skies, you and your instructor will leap out of the plane. What follows is something that you will always remember. The deserts below you, painted in colors that seem surreal from above, or if you have chosen Jumeirah, the Palm islands are below you, seen in the way that you have only seen them in pictures.

Couple this with the exhilaration of flying.

For 60 seconds, you will float and fly at 120 miles per hour. Despite any fears, you are completely safe, because your instructor will pull the chute and even if they were not there, the expensive equipment that is with you is designed to trigger the parachute automatically once you have reached a designated altitude.

All that exists is your flight and your perspective. Look around you, enjoy the view that so few have seen. One of the wealthiest countries on Earth is laid out for you like a map.

Then the parachute will deploy and you can enjoy 5 of the most memorable minutes of your life, as you revel in your exhilaration and take in all the details. Everything will be displayed in colors which you already knew but have never seen in this way before… until you reach the ground again.

Best of all, it has all been captured in photos and video, so that when you are older you can still taste the world’s wealthiest skies and remember when you flew above the billionaires. You will even get an interview before you ever step on the plane, so that you will always know how this adventure has changed your worldview in the end.

This is the experience that you have purchased. Not a bad way to spend your time, is it? Contemplate this from the comfort of your hotel, because Skydive Dubai will now be taking you back to where you started your day.

Preparing for a Dubai Skydiving Adventure

Now that you are booking your trip the next, most natural thing is to wonder how you should prepare. There is no need to Google it, because we’ve anticipated your needs and we have got you covered! When it comes to your skydive, you will want to bring the following:

  • A signed waiver that you have read and filled-out
  • A valid form of identification
  • If you are over 70 years of age (yes, you can jump at any age if you meet the requirements!), a form of fitness

You are also going to need to dress appropriately. Sneakers and athletic dress are ideal. Avoid shoes that will fall off and keep in mind that the higher you go, the colder it will be, so don’t dress for the ground. Dress for the sky.

Another preparation is basic but often neglected. Should you skip your morning meal? Of course you shouldn’t. When you prepare to be the Emperor or the Empress of the skies, you shouldn’t have to waste time thinking about breakfast as you survey your demesnes below. Rather, you should eat, but this is the important part, eat light. The professionals know that nausea can be part of the experience for those who have not planned things out. To avoid this, eat what you like but keep your breakfast within these guidelines:

  • If you get seasick or other forms of motion sickness, take the medication that you would normally use to get past this before eating and skydiving.
  • Avoid alcohol if it is your first time because you cannot anticipate what this level of exhilaration is going to feel like inside of your stomach
  • Make sure that you are hydrated– it is easy to overlook the basics when you are thinking about flying. Make sure that your body has enough water because you are practically visiting another world in this experience.

With these pointers in mind,  the only thing left to do is to keep your breakfast light. This is especially important if it is your first time. By eating light you can ensure that you are full and have no distracting thoughts to take away from your view and further, if you DO experience nausea, your Lilliputian meal-selection will ensure that you  can only be sick ONCE.

That said, if you don’t get sick on a boat, you probably won’t experience any discomfort in skydiving.

Making the Most Out of Your Skydiving Experience

As long as you have eaten lightly and dressed yourself in apparel that will not easily fall off of you then you are 99% prepared. There are still a few things which you can do to make the most out of your experience. We recommend the following:

  • Prepare your mind – The rational part of your brain is screaming, ‘I’m going to jump out of a plane today!’. This is completely normal and it is also normal to wonder how you will react. We recommend visualizing the experience the night before many, many times. You will still be surprised, as the actual experience can be imagined but won’t even come close to reality of the skydive, but if you mentally envision the event then you can jump with less worry. If you are the nervous sort, then do the opposite, and keep your mind occupied until the time of the jump.  .
  • Get plenty of sleep – You don’twant to be tired when you have 6 of the most glorious minutes of visual delights that you have ever seen. This time is precious and you purchased it, so don’t waste time staying up late. Get plenty or rest so that you can fully enjoy your unique experience skating above the rich horizons.
  • Brush-up on the Geography – You know where you will be jumping, so why not learn more? By exploring the geography in advance you will know places that might be seen from staggering heights, affording you a view that no one can experience in any other way. Take advantage of this and know your surroundings before you enjoy the view of the gods.
  • Don’t forget to BREATHE – It is quite easy to become so overwhelmed that you forget the basics. To this effect, we recommend a simple breathing exercise. Breathe in for 3 seconds, hold it for 3 seconds, and then breathe out for 3 seconds. One.. Two.. Three. Practice this the night before you jump so that you have a little recent breathing practice fresh in your mind for when your world becomes distracting.
