Best Boutique Hotels In Mexico City [2022]

Best Boutique Hotels In Mexico City

I have been to at least 16 AirBnBs in 2022 so far. The majority of which have been in Latin America. I am well-versed in Mexico City and would like to share the best boutique hotels.

Generally, the best boutique hotels in Mexico City are the Hippodrome Hotel, Red Tree House, La Valise Hotel, Condesa House, and Hotel Distrito Capital. These hotels tend to be in the more developed neighborhoods of Santa Fe, Condesa, and Roma. They may be slightly expensive, but you can easily access everything you want and need.

Hippodrome Hotel $$

If you enjoy stylish, art-deco-styled rooms with personalized, friendly service, you will love Hippodrome Hotel. This little hidden gem is slightly hidden, tucked away on a quiet side street in La Condesa (one of my favorite neighborhoods). This neighborhood is one of the hippest and most well-developed areas of Mexico City.

One of the best things about Hippodrome hotel is that instead of having minibars, you have a butler who can make you drinks and snacks upon request. The hotel also has its own fitness center, and laundry service is available.

I recommend you order the free breakfast on your room’s terrace and enjoy it while enjoying the slow, peaceful morning. You may then start to explore the area. Starting with the nearby Spain Park (Parque Espana) and Mexico Park (Parque Mexico).

The Red Tree House $

The Red Tree House may not give you the feel of a bustling hotel but more of a ‘visiting a friend’s home’ vibe. As you walk into the lobby, you may notice a classical piano, comfortable sofas, and rooms full of art. The hotel is also located in the Condesa district in downtown Mexico City.

I recommend you book the two-bed, two-bath penthouse suite. Here, you can step out to the roof garden planted with bananas, limes, and birds of paradise. There is also the ‘Treehouse’ suite, where you get a private terrace. Do find time to enjoy the morning sun while having your breakfast here.

If you are keen to socialize, you will enjoy the nightly “happy hour” in the lounge. Guests and staff are encouraged to get cozy by the wooden fireplace and socialize. You may just meet a fellow traveler who may be keen to explore the place or a local who will happily recommend a place to visit!

La Valise Hotel $$

La Valise Hotel is located in the La Roma neighborhood, known for its great lifestyle, art, and culture. The hotel is situated in a colonial townhouse on a picturesque tree-lined street. When you walk in, you may notice the rooms are set up like a townhouse, with rooms on the first and second floors.

Each room is decorated differently, with different names. I would recommend the La Terraza, as it has a bed that slides out onto a private terrace. This means you can technically sleep under the stars and wake up to quiet mornings.

The location of La Valise makes it a great place to base yourself while you explore Mexico City. Attractions include Jardin Botanico, Frida Kahlo’s house, and the Museum Of The Purpose Of The Object.

Condesa House $

The boutique hotel vibe suits couples, solo travelers, or families looking for a nice, cozy neighborhood as a base to explore Mexico City. The hotel is situated in the cozy and intimate neighborhood of La Colonia Condesa. The hotel is situated inside a renovated 1920s house.

The rooms are also designed and named after Mexico’s history and culture. For example, the Puebla refers to a city famous for Talavera production. As a result, you may see the room made with an intricately tiled bathroom. The Porfirio room features a metal bed frame in honor of Porfirio Diaz, a Mexican president in the early 20th century known for building railroads.

Once you are comfortable and ready to explore the surroundings, take a stroll and visit the nearby Independence Monument, a short 1.4 miles away. To explore further, simply make your way to the nearest metro station Buenavista, a short 3 miles away.

Hotel Distrito Capital $

If you like to be surrounded by energy, and modern designs, then Hotel Distrito Capital may just be for you. The hotel is located in Santa Fe, Mexico City’s most important business district. This means you may have a New York experience, walk out of the lobby, and see young professionals walking about in well-cut suits.

Since you are staying in the center of Mexico City, you will have plenty of options to decide what to do. You can sit back and enjoy the hotel’s interior design or the impressive views of the city and mountains. You may swim at the 43-feet long pool as well.

If you want to explore what’s outside, use the hotel as a base. Travel out during the day, enjoy yourselves, and return to great hospitality, good food, and a great night’s sleep. Check out the nearby La Granja del Tio Pepe (1.8 mi) and Acueducto del Padre Tembleque (2.3 mi.)

Hotel Parque Mexico $

This hotel may give you the vibe of a pre-war hospitality experience, with a three-floored building by the side of the road and smartly dressed hotel staff. The building is also painted bright blue and decorated with tiled floors, stained-glass windows, and giant murals.

The rooms are affordable and well decorated, cottage style. The rooms also open up to a lushly planted interior courtyard. When you walk into the rooms, you may notice the natural fragrances the hotel uses for the rooms. Take your time to also check out the furniture, because they are all hand-crafted.

If you’d like, you can rent a bike, and cycle around the neighborhood to feel the place. You may also visit the rooftop terrace and enjoy good modern Mexican food under the stars and romantic candlelight. You may also enjoy the live music, available on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Nima Local House Hostel $

This four-room hotel will work well for you if privacy and location matter most. Nima Local House Hostel is located in Mexico City’s hipster-chic La Roma neighborhood and has a lot going for it.

You can stroll to some of the best restaurants and bars in the city, and the boutique feels and cozy rooms will make you feel right at home while traveling abroad. Many guests also leave great feedback, mentioning their excellent, personalized service.

If you can opt for the room Loaeza. The room is named after an elegant Mexican lady. There you can also enjoy the wooden, rustic details and the interior balcony. The balcony will provide ample sunlight to help you wake up to natural daylight.

You Can Stay Anywhere

Photo of Mexico City Neighborhood

Honestly, unless you’re already in Mexico City. Then any of these hotels are nice. I’ve had my fair share of hotels and luxury apartments while I’ve been traveling. And every once in a while it’s cool to stay somewhere unique.

There’s plenty of things to do in Mexico City, and experiencing a boutique hotel can be a huge cherry on top. Personally, I would choose a hotel based on the neighborhood you want to stay in Mexico City

From there you can enjoy your hotel, as well as the neighborhood. And not to mention all the bars, quesadillas and tacos of this Latin city.
